Or if you’d prefer, you can contact us to make changes. Accessing your account is as easy as pie, and can be done 24/7 on any device. And if you’re just looking for some information on your policy, you’ll find them on your certificate of insurance.

Yes – all Budget Direct / View Insurance Home Insurance policies have a cooling-off period. That starts the moment you buy or renew the policy, and lasts for 21 days. If you change your mind within that time, you can cancel your policy. And if you haven’t made a claim, you’ll get all your money back.

Generally, making a claim on your Budget Direct / View Home Insurance policy follows 4 simple steps:

  • Collect the required information - If you start your claim over the phone, you'll need your policy number. Otherwise, it definitely helps if you have the details of the incident, photos of the damage or loss, and depending on the type of claim, a police report (if one was filed) ready when you go to lodge your claim.
  • Understand your cover - One fairly important step is to ensure your policy covers the damage or loss you're looking to claim on. You can check your Insurance Certificate to find out what optional extras you included, and your PDS to understand what is/isn't covered.
  • We'll stay in touch - Once you've lodged your claim, we'll reach out to you if it's been provisionally accepted. It's tough to timeline this process, given every claim can be a little bit different. But we'll endeavor to keep you in the loop on this process. And unless you're told otherwise, you can usually expect to hear a decision on your claim within 10 days.
  • Get a decision - Budget Direct may need to perform an assessment prior to getting a decision. But sometimes, a decision can be made from what you've provided. We'll then liaise to set up any repairs, replacements, or cash settlements relating to your claim.
